Who runs Bathroom Tech Guide, and how the research is done
A small, independent UK site about Japanese-style smart toilets and bidet seats. Here is who is behind it, what it is based on and what it is not.
Russell Blight, site owner
Bathroom Tech Guide is run by Russell Blight, from Wales. Most of what you find online about smart toilets is American, written by a retailer, or a list of marketplace products with little said about whether they will fit a UK toilet or how to get power to them safely.
The questions that actually decide whether a smart toilet works in a British bathroom (the shape of the pan, where the power comes from, backflow rules, who will service it) were the hardest to find answers to. This site tries to answer those first.
Editorial standards and AI assistance
AI tools assist with research, organisation, drafting and technical maintenance. Articles are desk research based on the sources cited, not reports of product testing. Russell Blight owns the site; the author credit does not mean that he personally reviewed every paragraph or that a qualified installer checked it. Prices and specifications carry evidence dates where available, and a page update date is not a fresh check of every product detail.
Manufacturer instructions and official guidance take priority over retailer summaries for technical claims. Where a claim cannot be confirmed, we flag the uncertainty rather than treating it as a guarantee. Before buying or fitting a product, confirm the exact model and installation requirements with the seller and qualified tradespeople.
How products are chosen
The comparison covers products that are sold through UK retailers with a UK voltage version, and that cover the main types and price levels: retrofit seats, entry-level and premium complete toilets. Sources include:
- the manufacturer's UK specification and installation information,
- UK retailer listings, with the date the price or availability was checked,
- customer ratings only where the source, score, review count and check date can be identified, separately from our analysis.
Where evidence conflicts or a detail could not be checked, the page should say so rather than guessing.
What I have not done
I have not tested these products hands-on, and I am not a plumber or electrician. The comparison is desk research. Nothing on this site has been reviewed by a medical, plumbing or electrical professional. Please treat it as a well-researched starting point and confirm fit, backflow protection and electrical work with the seller and a qualified installer.
Money and independence
No brand or retailer has paid to be included or to influence what is said. At the moment the retailer links are ordinary links and earn nothing. If I join affiliate programmes in future, which would pay a small commission on some purchases at no extra cost to you, I will label those links clearly and say so on the affiliate disclosure page. That will not change which products are included.
