TOTO WASHLET in the UK: the models, the codes and what you'll actually pay

TOTO WASHLET RG white electric bidet seat, shown without a toilet pan

This guide uses AI-assisted desk research and drafting, not hands-on testing or professional installation advice. Read our editorial standards or send a correction.

You've decided you want a TOTO. Not a lookalike, the real WASHLET, the one you used in a Tokyo hotel or saw in a friend's new bathroom.

So you search for it, and within ten minutes you're looking at prices from about £1,500 to nearly £5,000. The model names (RG, RG Lite, RW, SX) mean nothing to you, and every listing has a product code that looks like a Wi-Fi password.

That confusion has a cause, and once you can see it the whole UK TOTO market becomes much easier to read.

Quick answer: In the UK, TOTO sells WASHLET seats designed to pair with specific TOTO pans, not a universal seat. On 3 October 2026 the RG Lite GB seat alone was £1,468 at Bidet Shower UK, and RW sets ran from £2,709.50 to £4,810.80. Start by identifying the pan, then compare bundles by exact product code.

Before going further, here are the questions I'd expect you to have. I'll answer each one properly as we go:

  • Will a WASHLET fit the toilet I already have?
  • Why does what looks like the same WASHLET cost £2,700 at one shop and £4,800 at another?
  • Which model is the UK one, and does that matter?
  • If it breaks, who in the UK actually fixes it?
  • Can I try one before I hand over this kind of money?

The WASHLET you want depends on a toilet you might not own yet

Most people shop for a WASHLET the way they'd shop for an ordinary electric bidet seat. Pick the features, pick a price, check it "fits most UK toilets", order it.

That works for some brands. It mostly doesn't work for TOTO.

On every WASHLET product page, TOTO Europe lists the exact pans each seat is meant to sit on, by code. These aren't loose guidelines along the lines of "suits elongated bowls". They are named TOTO toilets.

So the first answer is simple. A WASHLET will fit your existing toilet if your existing toilet is a TOTO pan on the list for that seat. If it isn't, you're outside what TOTO documents, and you should budget for a new pan as well as the seat.

That changes the maths straight away. If your existing pan is not a documented match, budget for a pan as well as the WASHLET seat.

The usual way through this is to read a few reviews, decide the RW sounds nicest because it has a dryer and an automatic lid, and then look for the cheapest RW.

The trouble is that "an RW" isn't one product. TOTO pairs the RW seat with two different pans, one wall-hung and one back-to-wall floor-standing. Each pairing has its own connecting parts.

So the cheapest RW you find might be the seat on its own. Or it might be the seat plus a pan, or a full set with connectors and a valve. Until you know which, the price tells you nothing.

The better first question is: what pan will this sit on, and what does that pan need behind the wall? Once that's settled, the seat choice and the price comparison almost sort themselves out.

TOTO sells a pairing, and the pan code is the key

Here's the reframe I'd most like you to take away.

With TOTO, the pan code is the decision. The seat is chosen to match it.

You can see it in the codes themselves. TOTO's RG Lite with side connections, GB version lists the GP wall-hung pan as CW553Y. The WASHLET RG with hidden connections lists the GP wall-hung pan as CW553EY, described as "upgradable to WASHLET". It also needs a connecting set (SP10695UN) and a mini ball valve (SP515011B).

Same pan family, one extra letter, and a different list of parts.

I can't tell you from TOTO's pages exactly what physically differs between those two pans. What I can tell you is that TOTO treats them as different products for different seats. That's enough to make "I have a TOTO GP" an incomplete answer. You need the full code.

Side connections or hidden ones decide how much work you're in for

TOTO splits the range into seats with side connections and seats with hidden connections. This is the most practical distinction in the whole range, and listings rarely explain it.

With side connections, the water hose and power reach the seat from the side, where you can see them. TOTO describes the RG Lite side-connection model as "for easy retrofitting of existing TOTO toilets" and "an ideal starter shower toilet".

That model also has the broadest pan list I found: the GP wall-hung (CW553Y), the RP wall-hung (CW552RY), the ES wall-hung (CW797), and three versions of the NC: wall-hung (CW762Y), back-to-wall floor-standing (CW763Y) and close coupled (CW761Y with ceramic cistern SW760DY).

With hidden connections, the water and power are tucked away. That looks tidier, but it depends on an "upgradable to WASHLET" pan and the right connecting set.

My reading of it:

  • If you already have one of those TOTO pans and aren't refitting the bathroom, the side-connection RG Lite is the one TOTO itself positions for you.
  • If you're stripping the bathroom back to the walls anyway, hidden connections make more sense, because you're choosing the pan from scratch and can plan the water and power behind it.

The UK range, model by model, with the codes that matter

TOTO Europe lists 18 WASHLET products across the RW, SW, RX, SX, RG and RG Lite families. Many of those 18 are variants: trims, auto-flush versions, and side or hidden connections.

These are the ones I could tie to real details and, where possible, real UK prices. Prices were observed on 3 October 2026 and will change.

According to TOTO, every WASHLET shares some basics: three spray types with optional massage and oscillating modes, adjustable pressure, temperature and wand position, a heated seat, a wand that sits above the ceramic behind a protective flap, memory for two users, and a remote.

That shared floor is useful. It means the step from RG Lite to RW is about extras such as the dryer, odour handling and automatic lid. The wash itself doesn't get more basic as you go down the range.

TOTO also claims WASHLET is the original shower toilet, that it became widespread in Japan in the 1980s, and that over 65% of Japanese homes now have a shower toilet. That's TOTO's own figure. I'm passing it on, not vouching for it.

Which model is the UK one?

Only one code on TOTO Europe's list carries a GB suffix: TCF34120GGB, the RG Lite with side connections.

That doesn't mean the EU-coded models are wrong for a UK home. UK retailers sell them. But it does mean you should never assume.

Whatever you buy, ask the retailer to confirm in writing that it's the right version for the UK. Ask for the exact code, 230 V operation, and the type of power connection it expects.

Do I need the dryer?

The RG and RG Lite have no dryer listed. Drying performance varies by model and user; try a demonstration if this feature matters to you.

If the dryer is the main reason you're drawn to the RW, it's worth thinking about whether a few hundred, or possibly a couple of thousand, pounds extra is worth it for that alone. Our features guide goes through which extras earn their keep.

Why the same RW can cost £2,700 or £4,800

These are the RW listings I found on 3 October 2026:

Retailer What the listing says Price
Tooaleta UK TOTO WASHLET RW white trim + TOTO RP wall-hung WC combination £2,709.50 special price (regular £3,770.53), taken from a search listing
bidet-toilets.co.uk TOTO RW white trim £3,540.00 plus £48 heavy courier to mainland UK
C.P. Hart TOTO RW Washlet set £4,810.80

That's a gap of about £2,100 for something that sounds the same.

Some of it will be ordinary retail differences: sale prices, showroom overheads, delivery and service. But I couldn't confirm from these listings alone that all three include the same parts. One clearly says it includes the pan. The others say "RW" or "RW set" without spelling out every code.

Remember that the wall-hung RW pairing, per TOTO, is the seat plus CW542ERY plus SP10695UN plus SP515011B. A bundle missing the connecting set or valve isn't cheaper. It's incomplete, and you'll find out when your plumber can't finish the job.

The warranty terms also differ between retailers, which I'll come back to. That's another reason the cheapest headline price may not be the cheapest result.

So the answer to "why the price gap?" is mainly that you aren't looking at the same thing three times. Turn each listing into a list of codes and the comparison becomes fair.

Here's the RG Lite for contrast. At £1,468 for the seat only, it's the cheapest way into a real WASHLET I found. That's only true if you already own a compatible TOTO pan. If you don't, add a pan, and the price of that pan is not one I've verified.

A ten-minute check on the toilet you already have

You can do all of this this week without buying anything or touching a pipe.

  1. Find out whether your toilet is a TOTO at all. Look at the paperwork from when the bathroom was fitted, the installer's invoice, or any box or manual in the loft. Look on the pan too, including under the seat and around the back, because some manufacturers mark the ceramic. If you cannot identify it, ask the retailer to confirm the pan before assuming compatibility.
  2. If it is a TOTO, get the full code. "TOTO GP" isn't enough. You want something like CW553Y or CW553EY, because those pair with different seats.
  3. Note the type of toilet. Wall-hung (floating, with the cistern hidden in the wall), back-to-wall floor-standing, or close coupled (cistern sitting on the pan). Write it down.
  4. Photograph the pan from above and from the side, with the seat lid up. Take one more of the wall and floor around it, showing where any pipes come out.
  5. Find the isolation valve on the cold feed to the cistern, if you can see one, and photograph it. Don't adjust it.
  6. Look for power within reach of the toilet. Do not assume a nearby connection is suitable for the product. Note where the nearest light switch, fused spur or socket outside the room is.
  7. Measure the bare pan if you can lift the seat off easily: the fixing-hole spacing, the length from the hole line to the front of the rim, and the width. With TOTO, the code matters more than the tape measure, but measurements help a retailer check your answer.

If you can't find a code anywhere, that's useful information in itself. Ask the retailer to identify the pan before assuming compatibility or buying a replacement.

What to send a retailer before you pay anything

Send your photos, your pan code (or "unknown"), and your toilet type. Then ask these questions in writing:

  1. Which WASHLET seats does TOTO list as compatible with my pan code?
  2. Please list the exact TOTO code of every item in your quote: seat, pan, cistern if any, connecting set, valve.
  3. Is anything TOTO lists for this combination missing from your bundle?
  4. Is this version suitable for UK use at 230 V, and what power connection does it expect?
  5. Does this seat have backflow protection built in that meets UK water regulations, or does my plumber need to add it?
  6. What is the minimum water pressure it needs?
  7. What does the warranty cover, for how long, and who do I contact in the UK?
  8. Will you take it back if it turns out not to fit?

Question 8 matters. Check cancellation and return terms before opening or fitting the seat, and get fit confirmed in writing. Change-of-mind returns differ from rights for faulty or misdescribed goods; seller terms do not remove those statutory rights. See GOV.UK guidance on returns.

Send the same list of codes to two or three retailers. Now the prices actually compare.

Power and water are the bits that surprise people's budgets

A WASHLET heats water, warms a seat and runs electronics. It needs mains power right beside the toilet.

Do not assume there is a suitable power connection there. Wiring rules keep ordinary sockets away from baths and showers. The usual answer is a fixed connection such as a fused spur, fitted by an electrician.

Part P applies in England and Wales, but their notification requirements are not identical. Ask your electrician which work needs notification in your location and who will handle it. See the Welsh Government guidance and Approved Document P for England. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different rules.

Never run an extension lead into a bathroom, even "just to test it".

On the water side, a spray used for washing next to a toilet counts as fluid category 5 under UK water regulations. That's the highest risk category, because dirty water must never be able to flow back into your drinking supply. Water Regs UK explains this for bidets next to toilets.

Some products have suitable protection built in, often an internal air gap. Others need extra protection added to the plumbing. I haven't found a clear statement for each WASHLET in TOTO's pages, which is why it's on your list of questions for the retailer. Your plumber should check it against TOTO's installation documents too.

Water Regs UK says bidet showers or douches adjacent to toilets are notifiable in Scotland and Northern Ireland and could be notifiable in England and Wales. Approved-contractor exceptions may apply. Ask your water supplier or an approved contractor about your exact product and installation before work starts.

One more water point. If your home has very low pressure, which is common in older houses fed from a loft tank, any bidet seat can give a weak wash. Ask for TOTO's pressure range for your model and compare it with what your plumber finds.

What the extra work costs

These are the broad planning figures we publish (checked September 2026, labour from Checkatrade's toilet installation cost guide, updated May 2026). They're not quotes:

Job Rough UK cost
Plumber to replace a toilet like-for-like from about £150 labour
Plumber to fit a wall-hung toilet from about £300 labour
Building and tiling a frame to hide the cistern from about £350
Removing and disposing of the old toilet from about £75
Electrician to add a fixed power point quote needed

For a wall-hung smart toilet in the £1,500 to £3,000 range fitted during a refit, the total can easily reach double the toilet's price once the frame, plumbing, boxing-in, tiling and power are added. A TOTO pan and seat bundle is in that territory. Our installation costs page walks through it.

Who fixes it when it goes wrong in the UK

This is the question people ask last and should ask first.

From the listings I checked on 3 October 2026:

  • Bidet Shower UK says its RG Lite seat is "supplied with a 2 year manufacturer warranty".
  • bidet-toilets.co.uk says its RW comes with 2 years parts and labour on the seat, and 5 years all parts on the toilet and cistern.

Those are retailer statements, and they don't read the same. "Manufacturer warranty" and "parts and labour" can mean different things in practice. So can parts-only cover on the ceramic.

Before buying, get answers to these:

  • Does the warranty include labour, or just parts?
  • Do I need to register the product, or use a professional installer, for the warranty to count?
  • If the seat fails, does an engineer come out, or do I take it off and post it back?
  • Is there a UK contact, and is it the retailer or TOTO?
  • Can I buy spare filters, nozzles and remotes in the UK?

A WASHLET is electronics bolted onto ceramics that are fixed into your wall. Remember that a pan in a hidden frame with tiled boxing isn't something you casually swap. The aftercare answer is worth as much as a few hundred pounds of price difference. Our support checklist lists the warranty and spare-parts questions to ask.

Try one before you commit

TOTO's own site has a WASHLET Finder for finding somewhere to try a WASHLET in person, alongside a retailer search.

I'd use it, especially if you're weighing the RG Lite against the RW. You can judge things a spec sheet can't tell you: how strong the spray feels on your preferred setting, whether the heated seat is pleasant or too warm, whether the remote makes sense to whoever in your household is least keen on gadgets.

It also lets you see the side-connection hoses in real life. Some people don't mind them at all. Others decide on the spot that hidden connections are worth the extra work.

When a TOTO WASHLET is the wrong choice

TOTO is a sensible choice when you're refitting the bathroom and choosing the pan anyway, or when you already own one of the listed TOTO pans.

It's harder to justify in a few situations.

You have a non-TOTO toilet you're happy with and don't want building work. You'd be replacing a working toilet to get the seat. A retrofit seat from another brand, measured carefully against your pan, may be the better route. The best smart toilets shortlist includes seats designed for round UK pans.

You can't get power to the toilet without major disruption. If the electrician's quote involves chasing walls you've just tiled, either wait for the next refit or accept a non-electric attachment for now.

Your water pressure is below what the model needs. A premium seat with a weak wash is a poor result at any price.

Someone in the household has mobility needs. A WASHLET can make toileting more comfortable and independent, but the height, seat position and controls need to suit that person. An occupational therapist assessment is the right starting point before you choose.

The retailer won't put the codes and fit confirmation in writing. Go to one who will.

So, to answer the opening questions directly. A WASHLET fits your toilet only if your toilet is the TOTO pan listed for it. The price gaps come largely from bundles that aren't the same. The one GB-coded model is TCF34120GGB. UK repair support depends on the retailer's terms, so you have to ask. And yes, you can try one first through TOTO's WASHLET Finder.

If you're still deciding between TOTO and the other brands sold here, the buying guide is the next page to read.

Common questions

Will a TOTO WASHLET fit my existing toilet?

Only if your toilet is one of the TOTO pans listed for that seat. TOTO publishes exact pairings. For example, the RG Lite side-connection GB seat (TCF34120GGB) lists specific GP, RP, ES and NC pans. If your toilet isn't on the list for the seat you want, you should plan on buying a new TOTO pan as well.

How much does a TOTO WASHLET cost in the UK?

On 3 October 2026 the RG Lite GB seat on its own was £1,468 at Bidet Shower UK. RW listings ranged from £2,709.50 (a special price including a pan) to £4,810.80 at C.P. Hart. What's included in each bundle varies, so compare the product codes rather than the headline price. Prices change often.

Which TOTO WASHLET is the UK version?

On TOTO Europe's site, only the RG Lite with side connections has a code ending GB (TCF34120GGB), so check UK suitability for any other model with the seller. Whichever one you buy, ask the retailer to confirm in writing the exact code, 230 V operation, the power connection type and who handles warranty claims in the UK.

Can I try a TOTO WASHLET before buying one?

Yes. TOTO's website has a WASHLET Finder that lists places where you can try one in person, and a separate retailer search. Use it to judge spray strength, seat warmth and how easy the remote is, before you commit to a seat and pan pairing that is expensive to undo.

Do I need an electrician and a plumber to fit a TOTO WASHLET?

Yes. A WASHLET needs mains power beside the toilet, usually a fused spur fitted by a registered electrician. Part P notification requirements differ between England and Wales; ask your electrician what applies in your location. A plumber should make the water connection and confirm backflow protection against TOTO's documentation.
